same difference
Same Difference provides high quality specifically designed courses to the private, public and voluntary sectors across the West of England – working to ensure your greatest asset, your employees, understand the relevance of Equality & Diversity to create an inclusive, innovative and successful business.
my background
Each session is facilitated by myself, Simon Nelson. I have worked in the field of Equality & Diversity for over twenty years, working with, Bristol City Council British Airways, University of the West of England and more recently with Avon Fire & Rescue Service near my home in Bristol.
My programmes involve exploring our differences using a variety of learning techniques. Your business will not only gain an understanding of the legal requirements as set out in the Equality Act 2010 but will also crucially discuss and challenge biases that can lead to discrimination in the workplace, all of which is explored in a safe environment.
My training techniques are about enabling and empowering your staff to connect and form relationships where everyone has an equal voice and where everyone’s point of view is recognised as adding value to your business. Members of your team will be encouraged to challenge constructively, take ownership and responsibility for embedding effective practices.
Same Difference offers bespoke, flexible, engaging training and workplace mediation throughout the year.
my services
The course entitled ‘Rights & Responsibilities’ has been developed and delivered through my work across sectors and can be easily adapted to meet the needs of any organisation and can be delivered as a full or half days training.
Having worked in and across diverse sectors I understand the need for specific training that focuses on discussion and problem solving in a welcoming and inclusive environment. My courses are uniquely designed with your input to further your ambitions as a successful organisation and boost moral amongst your workforce.
The learning outcomes of my training programmes include:
- An introduction to the concepts of equality & diversity
- Exploring why diversity is important to your organisation – the business case for diversity
- Provide a model for embedding equality and diversity within your organisation
- Overview of legislation The Equality Act and its relevance to your organisation
- Exploring prejudices and bias and how our unconscious bias impacts on others
- Identifying micro-aggressions in the workplace and how to challenge these constructively
Research shows that mediation in workplace disputes improves the way individuals communicate and can assist in building a more supportive working environment. In my years of providing mediation I have become aware of the negative impact that costly legal disputes can have on an organisation. Long drawn out disputes can also cause hurt and bad feeling among the individuals involved.
My sessions are structured to allow individuals the opportunity to listen to each other and to talk freely in a safe environment without bias to either party.
Confidential mediation sessions are arranged outside of the workplace and are based on the premise that both parties have agreed to participate voluntarily.
Agreements between parties can be further used to develop a personal Mediation Agreement Plan (MAP).
